How to Make Hummingbird Food

In Arizona hummingbirds are everywhere so it is pretty a must that you have a feeder at least somewhere in your neighborhood. This is how you can create hummingbird food. From my experience this method works the best. I have tried numerous retail versions but nothing works as well as homemade hummingbird food.

Get a pot to heat up some water.

Measure 2 cups water and 1/2 cup sugar. This depends on the size of your Humming Bird feeder. Its 1 cup water to a quarter cup sugar as rule.

Boil the sugar in the water until it mixes. This is very important, you need to make sure the sugar mixes with the water.

Let it cool until its room temperature. The hummingbirds do not like food that is too hot.

After the sugar water has cooled then you can add 6 drops of red food coloring. The red food coloring supposedly attracts the humming birds. This is a myth since we have used blue and had the same results.

Now you can pour the red sugar water in the bird feeder. Just a quick note, wants the hummingbirds start to come they will never leave. We had left on vacation and came back to hungry hummingbirds hanging out by the door waiting for some more food….enjoy
